Accessibility to and Inclusion of People with Marginalized Identities
We, the organizers of the Spark Theological Convocation, actively seek to include people from marginalized communities in the conversations taking place over the course of the weekend. We will be encouraging identity/experience-specific caucus spaces during breakout sessions, including for those who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and Disabled participants.
During breakout sessions, participants can choose to be in groups of mixed identities or to gather in an identity-based group. We recognize that participants may identify with multiple groups, and welcome the formation of additional affinity groups as needed. We have limited space for private gatherings, but will help any newly- formed groups find a place to meet upon request.
A note about masking:
We care about one another’s health and well-being. Respiratory and other airborne contagions are a concern to all of us, and particularly to those of us who are immunocompromised. We understand that mask requirements are a complex issue in terms of accessibility, and that the landscape of contagious disease is likely to change over the coming weeks and months. As such, we are not requiring masks for this weekend, and we may update this decision closer to the date of the convocation. Masking is always welcome, and if you are unwell at the time of the conference, we encourage you not to attend.
If you are a person of color, have a disability, identify as queer, trans*, or gender nonconforming, and/or if your financial situation is an impediment to registration, please reach out to us over email at info@sparkuu.org to learn about potential scholarship opportunities.
